Raul is a Mexican-American fashion designer who first studied fashion design in Mexico in 2008, and later at NYC's Fashion Institute of Technology in 2016. He has 10 years of fashion experience which has taken him from Oklahoma, to Mexico and New York. A regular at Project Runway casting calls, he was featured on seasons 9 and 10 for their "Road to the Runway" specials.
During his time studying abroad in Mexico, he worked for a tailor and seamstress and later went on his own to freelance custom designs for stage performers.
-In 2009, Flores interned with womenswear Tulsa designer, Suzanne Anderson.
-In 2010, Raul Flores moved to New York to pursue his dream further in the fashion industry.
-In 2011, Flores interned for menswear designer Carlos Campos; his participation producing the collection and developing the portfolio led to the success of Carlos becoming a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the first Latino-American menswear designer to have been nominated. Later that year in New York, Flores met artistic director for Lady Gaga and Mugler, Nicola Formichetti, assisting with a pop up shop during NYFW.
2016, Flores attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, completing the One-Year Associate's Program in Fashion Design. Flores became assistant designer to Caribbean designer Sabina Zest; and assisted Dan Liu for his first NYFW fashion show.
Philosophy and Style
Flores loves everything drama - as a "more is more" designer, he likes to experiment with color, print (houndstooth), silhouette, and very edgy styling.
His designs have been worn by stage performers, drag queens and artists from Mexico, Los Angeles, Dallas and New York. He has appeared on L Magazine, (a Brooklyn publication), ExcellStyle Magazine (Tulsa), and Lifetime's Project Runway.
